Anzac Day 2009
Saturday
25 April Anzac Day is a declared Public Holiday within Victoria and
public holiday rates apply.
There is no day given in substitution in 2009. The Victorian
Government have signalled that this will take place in 2010, but it does
not apply this year.
2.
Union Rally 28 April 2009
Various
unions in the construction industry have organised a rally on 28 April
2009 to protest against the Australian Building and Construction
Commission (ABCC).
As you would be aware, the ACTU is supportive of the Government’s Fair
Work Act which comes into operation on 1 July 2009 – so the rally
appears to be in protest about the Building and Construction Industry
Improvement Act which contains provisions relating to the ABCC and
Federal Safety Commissioner.
Employees who fail to attend work to participate in the rally without
the agreement of their employer would in most circumstances be engaging
in unlawful industrial action and as such not be paid.

Collective Bargaining Agreements
The
GGAV Industrial Relations Committee have completed their work on a GGAV
model Collective
Bargaining Agreement for use by GGAV members.
This agreement has been approved by the Australian Government's National
Code of Practice for the Construction Industry assessment.
Members should not sign the CFMEU, FFTS distributed agreement that asks
for large pay increases that cannot be justified in the current economic
climate. It is pointed out that these agreements are designed to
be adjusted for each companies situation with regard to pay increases
ane clauses.
Members should contact Don Blanksby to obtain a copy of the agreement
and discuss any modifications that they require Email Don at
info@ggav.org.au
to discuss your companies requirements and for advice prior to
signing any agreement.
